Executive Director, Parks & Recreation

Maggie MacDonald is the Executive Director of Parks & Recreation. Maggie has over 20 years of experience in the not-for-profit and government sectors. She has worked for the Halifax Regional Municipality since April of 2012; initially with the Government Relations and External Affairs division and more recently with Parks & Recreation. Prior to working for the municipality, Maggie worked with the Province of Nova Scotia in consumer protection and business programs leading some provincial consumer protection functions including regulations on payday lenders and petroleum products pricing. Maggie started her career as a policy analyst with the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.

Maggie earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of King’s College, Halifax with a major in economics and holds a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Public Administration from Concordia University in Montréal. Maggie also completed the Implementing Public Policy program at the Harvard Kennedy School. Maggie is an avid choral singer and serves as a volunteer with various organizations.
